Automated Invoice Validation with Clarity.AIV

Clarity.AIV delivers intelligence in support of the invoice validation & data challenge (claims management) processes associated with healthcare commissioning. Delivering benefits to Trusts & commissioners alike, the solution replaces the manual and hugely time consuming tasks associated with cds validation with a fully automated set of complex validation routines which deliver timely and accurate reports for commissioning and finance teams. These reports are delivered through easy to understand web based reports.

Clarity.AIV can be easily implemented alongside Sollis’s contract & performance management system - Clarity.CMS - providing enhanced functionality to highlight billing and coding errors and identify potential savings against commissioning budgets.

Sollis’s reputation preceded them and we had no hesitation in enlisting their support. Together we have developed new systems that have allowed us to get a much firmer grip on data and on costs.

Mike McSweeney, Head of Information, Berkshire East PCT

For commissioners

Clarity.AIV quickly identifies the nature of errors with a claim for payment. Automation means greater efficiency in the data assurance process. Complex validation routines provide key information which can highlight, for example, the length of stay in an acute setting and assign indicative costs to this activity in line with PbR requirements.

For providers

The solution enables Trusts to supply to its commissioning colleagues a clean and valid commissioning data set. In so doing Trusts get an early warning as to any threats to possible income.

By using Clarity.AIV, Trusts can proactively manage & predict PCT data challenges before they occur. Data can be ‘corrected’ at source in a timely and efficient manner thus helping to create a positive environment within which a Trust/commissioner dialogue can operate.

Data Assurance

The solution uses a comprehensive set of detailed validation routines, which run automatically, checking for missing data and coding errors. Data can be split into data sets and formatted into clear, aggregated figures that are easy to understand and interpret.

Filtering

Clarity.AIV automatically scans Trust data to establish if a particular record has failed.

Results of the validation process can be grouped as follows:

  • Record contains errors, but not serious enough to prevent payment;
  • Reviewed and paid (records with errors, which have been manually overridden);
  • Reviewed and rejected (records with errors, that the provider or commissioner will not assign to contract);
  • To be reviewed (records that are not pre-authorised and that require investigation).

Data can be split into different sub-sets, for example, by specific patient, provider, period of time, a particular challenge, speciality, HRG or gender. Users can also filter on types of errors to assess whether these challenges should be stopped or marked as errors.

Reporting and Management dashboards

Detailed patient level analysis is available.

Advanced reporting features means that all challenges relating to a particular patient can be shown on one line. Summary reports are available which demonstrate:

  • The point of delivery;
  • The top five specialities where errors are occurring;
  • The top five challenges that are occurring.

An intuitive traffic light system alerts users as to improvements in claims management or otherwise. Reports show a brief headline including the number of challenges, those that are outstanding, indicative associated costs and how many challenges are to be reviewed. Trend analysis within the financial year is also available.
